Every city in Japan has famous restaurants and most have a well regarded ramen shop. Each area of Japan has it's own style of ramen usually. According to a no longer exsiting webiste, Kyoto is "known for it's soft, straight, medium-sized noodles." I'm not sure how famous this shop is, but it was nearby where Yayoi and I met so we ate there. I think it is not too far from Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae ssO station.
In 2026, I returned to Japan. I passed through Kyoto on my way from Nara to Toyohashi. Alas I never ate as much ramen on the trip as I should have, but I did get a couple bowls. Narita airport always seems to have good ramen, though the best places remain little hole in the walls I took great pain to seek out twenty plus years ago.
I actually ate a lot of Ramen in China, first in Beijing when I was a student there and later in Shanghai where I again taught English.
