China - 中国

While an MBA student at the Sauder School of Business, I opted to go on exchange to China. Many people have asked me why, especially in light of how badly my life went during the post Core. The answer I alwasy give is "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

My official rationale essay on why I wanted to go on exchange states things slightly differently. I guess there just weren't enough Chinese students at UBC for me. When I originally applied to the Sauder School of Business I was in Japan and considered doing my exchange there as I already had some Japanese -日本 language ability. I also seriously considered returning to continental Europe. In the end I ranked Tsinghua - 清华大学 number one. I've always been a history buff and China has more history than almost anywhere else. The official report of my exchange semmester is now available online.

Despite everything I am making an effort to learn Mandarin Chinese. A few classmates are helping me. I even set up an email address so I can write 中文 - Chinese

中文 Phrase of the Moment

中文 PinYin English
不三不四 bù sān bù sì dubious/shaddy

Aparently this phrase is a little bit rude, which I can't understand. It literally means not three not four and it was in my dictionary... But two out of two Chinese women have said the same thing.

I've also archived all the past phrases of the moment but there aren't very many, check out this site for a Chinese Idiom a day, it is a lot more knowledgable than me.
